Basic tools

The basic tools include the drawing and transformation tools. You can create and modify character glyphs in the working area. With the Zoom and Pan tools you can handle the workspace while editing your font.

Name: Pencil
Shortcut: P

To draw single pixels just click the mouse button over the required grid unit. To draw continuous lines press the left mouse button and move it by holding it down. To finish drawing release the mouse button. Use mouse right click to erase pixels.

Name: Line
Shortcut: L

With this tool you can draw straight lines. To draw a line press the left mousebutton, drag it to the endpoint of the line and release the mouse button.

Name: Rectangle
Shortcut: R

You can draw rectangles and squares with this tool. Press the left mouse button to start drawing and drag the mouse into the opposite corner point of the rectangle. To finish the rectangle, release the left mouse button.

Name: Circle
Shortcut: C

You can draw ellipse and circle with this tool. Press left mousebutton to start drawing. Drag your mouse until you see the right shape. To finish, release the mouse button.

Name: Select
Shortcut: S

With the Select tool you can define an active area. This area can be moved, rotated, fliped or copied to the clipboard. Patterns color in active area will change to a different color. You can set the color of the selection in Menu | View | Change selection color. The default selection color is red.

Name: Eraser
Shortcut: E

Use the Eraser tool to clear pixels in the working area. This tool works like the pencil, but it does not create pixels, instead it erases them.

Name: Rotate
Shortcut: R

Use the Rotate tool to rotate the patterns in the working area by 90 degrees. Clicking the left button rotates clockwise, clicking the right button rotates counterclockwise. If you want to rotate only a part of the character, use the Select tool to select the area you want to rotate and use the Rotate tool thereafter.

Name: Move
Shortcut: M

Use the Move tool to move pixels in the working area. If you want to move only specific pixels, use the Select tool to select them and use the Move tool thereafter.

Name: Flip horizontal
Shortcut: H

Use the Flip horizontal tool to flip the pixels horizontally. If you have a selection, Flip horizontal applies only to selected patterns.

Name: Flip vertical
Shortcut: V

Use the Flip vertical tool to flip the pixels vertically. If you have a selection, Flip vertical applies only to selected patterns.

Name: Zoom
Shortcut: Z

Use the Zoom tool to zoom the working area. Left click zooms in, alt+left click zooms out.

Name: Pan
Shortcut: Space bar

Use the pan tool to drag the working area to see its hidden parts.
